Abstract
The open Palmer technique offers a reliable alternative for laparoscopic entry, particularly in cases where traditional umbilical access may be risky. By targeting Palmer’s point—situated 3 cm below the left costal margin in the mid-clavicular line—this method allows surgeons to safely enter the abdominal cavity under direct visualization. The technique is especially advantageous for patients with prior abdominal surgeries, adhesions, or other conditions that complicate standard entry methods. This video outlines the essential steps and surgical considerations of the open Palmer technique, highlighting its adaptability and value in improving patient safety during laparoscopic procedures. It serves as a practical guide for surgeons seeking to expand their toolkit with a proven method for challenging cases.
